Clarifier is generally intended for fine suspended particles. Overdosing can make cloudiness worse. Follow the product label, keep the filter operating, and clean or backwash it as needed.

How the Clarifier Dose Helper Works

This calculator scales the product label dose to match your pool volume. Enter the pool size and the amount of clarifier recommended per 10,000 gallons. Select the same dose unit printed on the label, and the tool returns the matching amount for your pool.

The calculator does not choose a treatment rate for you. Clarifier products vary, so the rate must come directly from the product label.

What Pool Clarifier Does

Clarifier helps very small suspended particles bind into larger groups that the filter can capture more easily. It may help with mild haziness after the underlying chemistry problem has already been corrected.

Clarifier does not kill algae, replace sanitizer, fix poor circulation, or repair a filter problem. Green or actively cloudy water usually needs diagnosis and proper chlorine treatment first.

When Clarifier May Help

  • The water is chemically balanced but slightly hazy.
  • Fine particles are passing through the filter.
  • Cloudiness remains after an algae cleanup is complete.
  • The filter is clean and operating correctly.
  • The product is approved for your filter type.

Common Clarifier Mistakes

  • Using clarifier to treat active algae.
  • Adding more than the label rate.
  • Combining several clarifying or flocculating products.
  • Failing to clean the filter after particles are captured.
  • Ignoring low chlorine, poor circulation, or filtration problems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can too much clarifier make a pool cloudier?

Yes. Overdosing can create gummy material, clog filter media, or keep particles suspended. Measure carefully and follow the label.

Is clarifier the same as flocculant?

No. Clarifier usually helps the filter capture particles. Flocculant is intended to drop material to the floor for removal, often by vacuuming to waste.

How long does clarifier take to work?

Timing depends on the product, filter, circulation, and cause of cloudiness. Many products require continuous filtration for several hours or longer.

Should I backwash after using clarifier?

Watch filter pressure and follow the filter and clarifier instructions. The captured debris may require backwashing or cartridge cleaning.

Pool Gal Pro Tip 💦

Clarifier is the cleanup crew, not the detective. Fix the reason the water turned cloudy before asking the filter to polish it.
