How to Use a SLAM Log

A SLAM log helps you track Free Chlorine, Combined Chlorine, brushing, filter cleaning, water clarity, and dosing during the SLAM Process. Logging each test makes it easier to see whether chlorine is holding longer and whether the pool is steadily improving.

Why Frequent Testing Matters

During an active SLAM, chlorine is consumed by algae and other organic contamination. Testing and restoring Free Chlorine to the correct target as often as practical keeps the process moving. Letting chlorine remain below target can slow cleanup and extend the treatment.

What to Record

Understanding the Target

The SLAM target is based on the pool’s CYA level. This tracker uses an approximate target of 40% of CYA unless you choose a manual target. Always confirm the target that matches your testing method and treatment plan.

When the SLAM Process Is Complete

The process is generally considered complete only when the water is clear, Combined Chlorine is 0.5 ppm or lower, and the pool passes the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test. Meeting only one or two of these conditions is not enough.

Important Notes
  • Maintain the correct Free Chlorine target throughout the process.
  • Brush and circulate the entire pool, including steps, ladders, and hidden areas.
  • Clean or backwash the filter when pressure rises above its clean starting pressure.
  • Use the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to confirm that active contamination is gone.
