A good spring opening is easier when the work is done in the right order. Restore circulation first, remove debris second, and adjust water chemistry only after the equipment is running properly. This prevents wasted chemicals and makes it easier to spot leaks or equipment problems early.
Remove standing water and debris from the cover before taking it off. Reinstall drain plugs, return fittings, skimmer parts, pump components, filter parts, and salt-system equipment. Inspect O-rings and unions before starting the pump.
Brush the walls, steps, ladders, and floor. Remove leaves and sediment with a net or vacuum. Physical cleaning reduces the amount of contamination chlorine must handle and helps the filter clear the water faster.
Once circulation is stable, test Free Chlorine, Combined Chlorine, pH, Total Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness, and CYA. Correct pH and alkalinity first, then adjust stabilizer and calcium as needed before bringing chlorine to the proper target.
Before the pool is used, inspect barriers, gates, alarms, drain covers, handrails, ladders, and electrical equipment. Replace damaged or missing safety items before allowing swimmers into the pool.
